Memory verse of the day:
"Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." Galatians 5:16
As you go about your day reflect on these questions:
How have you tried to achieve your dreams? What habits help you to be in a posture to receive blessings from God?
Let Us All Pray together
The author Napoleon Hill said, “Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” But as we grow older, we also see an imminent danger in following Hill’s ideas: Our grasping attempts to achieve our dreams can be a self-focused attempt to live independently from God. Dear Father, sometimes we try to fill ourself apart from You. Please help us yield to Your Spirit’s guidance and trust You to fill our heart with Your spirit, so that we will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Thank You LORD!
In Jesus Name we all pray,
Amen and Amen!

RECEIVING FROM GOD (Galatians 5:13-25)
“In his 1937 book Think and Grow Rich, author Napoleon Hill said, “Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Hill’s quote epitomizes the American Dream: If you work hard, you can achieve your wildest dreams.
Hard work may lead to earthly benefits; many passages of Scripture—especially in Proverbs—link those things. But as I grow older, I also see a real danger in following Hill’s ideas: My grasping attempts to achieve my dreams can be a self-focused attempt to live independently from God.
In Galatians 5, Paul contrasts two ways of life: “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (v. 16). Eugene Petersen paraphrases it this way: “Live freely, animated and motivated by God's Spirit. Then you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness” (The Message). A few verses later, Paul describes what a flourishing life in Christ looks like: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (vv. 22-23).
Many voices in this world compel us to grasp our desires with both hands. The life we long for, though, is not one we earn but one we receive as we yield to the Holy Spirit—freely walking with Him—rather than striving desperately to grasp blessing on our own terms.”

Receiving from God
The life we long for is not one we earn — it is one we receive
📝 Memory Verse
Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16 | Read: Galatians 5:13–25
📖 Bible in a Year
✡ Old Covenant — Esther 1–2
For Such a Time as This — Esther Enters the Palace
King Ahasuerus deposes Queen Vashti for refusing to appear at his banquet, then seeks a new queen throughout the empire. Among those brought to the palace is Esther — a young Jewish woman raised by her cousin Mordecai after the death of her parents. Beautiful and wise, she wins the favor of all who meet her and is chosen as queen.
✝ New Covenant — Acts 5:1–21
Ananias and Sapphira — Truth, Judgment, and the Fear of God
Ananias and Sapphira sell a piece of land but secretly keep back part of the proceeds while claiming to give the full amount. Peter confronts them: they have not lied to men but to God. Both fall dead, and great fear comes upon the whole church. Yet the apostles continue boldly — signs and wonders multiply, and people stream in from surrounding towns to be healed. When the high priest has them arrested, an angel opens the prison doors by night...
☀️ Today's Devotion — Receiving from God
Our Daily Bread · John Blase | June 20, 2026
In his 1937 book Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill famously declared: "Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve." That philosophy — the power of the self-determined, driven individual — has deeply shaped the Western imagination. Work hard enough, dream big enough, and success will come.
Hard work is honourable, and Scripture itself links diligence with reward, especially in Proverbs. But as we grow older, a danger in Hill's vision becomes clearer: the relentless pursuit of our own dreams can quietly become a self-focused attempt to live independently from God. When we grasp and strive, we may be saying, "I can achieve this without You."
Paul offers a different way. In Galatians 5, he contrasts two modes of living: walking by the Spirit versus gratifying the desires of the flesh. Eugene Peterson paraphrases it: "Live freely, animated and motivated by God's Spirit. Then you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness." The flourishing life Paul describes — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (vv. 22–23) — is not a life we manufacture. It is fruit. And fruit is received, not achieved.
Many voices tell us to grasp our desires with both hands. But the life we truly long for comes not through striving — it comes as we yield to the Holy Spirit and walk freely with Him, open-handed and trusting.
💡 Reflect & Pray
In what areas of your life are you striving to achieve in your own strength rather than receiving from God? What would it look like to open those areas to the Holy Spirit?
What habits or practices help you stay in a posture of receiving — of walking by the Spirit rather than grasping for blessing on your own terms?
🙏 Prayer
Holy Spirit, I confess that I often strive to achieve in my own strength rather than walking with You. Teach me to release my grip on my plans and desires, and to receive from You instead. Produce in me the fruit that only You can grow — love, joy, peace, and all the rest. Animate and motivate me today. I want to walk freely with You, not independently from You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
